Legion Post Keeps In Touch With Men In the Service Among the most important of the many activities an American Legion post is that letting the of servicemen and women who are away from home know that the folks in their community are interested in them. That is what the membership, 329, of of the Pearl John H. River Secor is accomplishing these days.

Through the medium of a hardworking four member committee that leaves no stone unturned to see to it the personnel of the armed forces who come from the Pearl River area know what's going on in the home town and are kept aware of the fact that the folks back haven't forgotten them, the is fulfilling home, this important obligation. Every young man or woman from the Pearl River area who has either been to active duty or has joined service tor recalled, the first time since the outbreak of the Korean War, receives regular communications from the Secor Post, designed to bring Rockland County right into the G. I. foxhole if necessary. The committee has worked diligently on this task, spending its time in writing letters to the service personnel, sending Christmas greetings to them during the holiday season, and forwarding is.

Secor Post are now making plans for the erection of another honor roll in Memorial Park, to take its place beside the one erected during World War II, as a fitting reminder of those who have been called to the colors in recent months. Orangeburg Unit A nominating committee will be chosen at the meeting of the Orangeburg P.T.A.

Students of the science department of the Ny ack High School are at work, nearing completion, in the construction of a GeigherMuller counter. This counter is used to detect radioactivity in the atmosphere or in minerals. It is of a type used by civilian defense workers to check radioactivity aftan atomic attack occurs and is also used by prospectors locating mineral deposits containing uranium ore or any radioactive substance.
